The Catholic Church, also known as the Roman Catholic Church, is the largest Christian church, with approximately 1.3 billion baptised Catholics worldwide as of 2017. As the world’s “oldest continuously functioning international institution”, it has played a prominent role in the history and development of Western civilisation. The church is headed by the Bishop of Rome, known as the Pope. Its central administration, the Holy See, is in the Vatican City, an enclave within the city of Rome in Italy. Pope Francis (Jorge Mario Bergoglio) is the current head of the Catholic Church.

The Redeemed Christian Church of God was founded by Josiah Akindayomi in 1952. The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) is a Pentecostal megachurch and denomination founded in Lagos, Nigeria. The General overseer (most senior pastor) is Enoch Adeboye, ordained in 1981. As of August, 2018, the RCCG has a presence in 198 countries of the world. The church in Lagos has an average church attendance of 50,000.

The Church of Pentecost is a church originating from Ghana. This Pentecostal church claims worldwide about 20,000 congregations with more than 3 million members. The Church of Pentecost was founded in 1962 by Irish missionary, James McKeown. The Church of Pentecost has branches in over 90 countries in all the continents, namely, Africa, America, South America, Europe, Asia and Australia. This spread of the Church was propelled partially by, the national economic crisis of 1983 which forced several Ghanaians, including members of the Church to seek means of subsistence abroad. Members of the Church in the Diaspora carried with them the gospel and, in due course, pioneered branches of the Church wherever they settled.

4. United Denominations Originating from the Lighthouse Group of Churches (UD-OLGC)

The United Denominations Originating From The Lighthouse Group Of Churches (UD-OLGC) is an international Charismatic Organization founded by Dag Heward-Mills in 1982. The ‘UD’ comprises many different denominations and is present in 94 countries across all continents. It is regarded as one of the fastest growing missions over the last century. The headquarters of UD-OLGC is in Accra, Ghana.

5. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, often informally known as the LDS Church or Mormon Church, is a nontrinitarian, Christian restorationist church that is considered by its members to be the restoration of the original church founded by Jesus Christ. It was foundered by Joseph Smith in 1830. The church is headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah in the United States, and has established congregations and built temples worldwide. According to the church, it has over 16 million members[3] and 67,000 full-time volunteer missionaries. 6. Assemblies Of God

The Assemblies of God, officially the World Assemblies of God Fellowship, is a group of over 140 autonomous but loosely associated national groupings of churches which together form the world’s largest Pentecostal denomination. With over 397,000 ministers[3] and outstations in over 256 countries and territories serving approximately 69.1 million adherents[3] worldwide, it is the fourth largest international Christian group of denominations and the largest Pentecostal denomination in the world. The Assemblies of God was founded in 1914 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. George O. Wood is the current Chairman of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship.

7. Baptist World Alliance (BWA)

The Baptist World Alliance (BWA) is a worldwide alliance of Baptist churches and organizations formed in 1905 at Exeter Hall in London during the first Baptist World Congress. The organisation counts 47 million people and is the largest organisation of Baptist churches in the world. Less than a half of the world’s Baptists are affiliated with this organisation. Its leader is the South African Ngwedla Paul Msiza. The BWA is headquartered in Falls Church, Virginia.

8. Every Nation Churches & Ministries

Every Nation Churches & Ministries is a worldwide organization of churches and campus ministries. The organization is located in seven regions around the world. The president is Steve Murrell.In 1994, American evangelists Phil Bonasso and Rice Broocks visited Victory (church) led by Steve Murrell in Manila, Philippines. Together, they founded Morning Star International before changing the name in 2004 to Every Nation. As of 2015, Every Nation has churches in sixty-nine countries. 9. Apostolic Church

The Apostolic Church is a Christian denomination that came from the Pentecostal movement. The term “Apostolic” represents the denomination’s belief that it follows the teachings of the twelve apostles who followed Christ. With roots in the 1904–1905 Welsh Revival, it seeks to stand for first-century Christianity in its faith, practices, and government. The largest national church is The Apostolic Church Nigeria, with over 4.5 million members and a national convention centre that seats over 100,000. The Apostolic Church was foundered by Daniel Powell Williams in 1916.

10. Seventh-day Adventist Church

The Seventh-day Adventist Church is a Protestant Christian denomination which is distinguished by its observance of Saturday, the seventh day of the week in Christian and Jewish calendars, as the Sabbath, and its emphasis on the imminent Second Coming of Jesus Christ. Ted N.C. Wilson was elected as president of the Seventh-day Adventist world church in July 2010 during the General Conference Session in Atlanta.
